Here I Grow Again

As I am going through the latest round of edits coming back to me, I keep thinking about how much I have grown as an author.  Although I should keep on going through and getting through what I need to get done so that I can pass it on, I had some thoughts on my mind and thought that I should do a blog post.  Plus I got this great advertising banner for my new book, coming in March and had to share it.  I've always been reluctant to share my cover art prior to my book's publishing, fearing someone might steal the artwork I created for their own book.  Silly, I know, being most authors I've met have integrity.   With this I am able to show off the cover art and not worry about the cover being stolen.

I think that T.E.D. is a great book.  Sure I might be biased as the author.  Anyone who knows me, knows that I am my worst critic.  T.E.D. is going to be exciting for so many reasons...  1)  I have a promotions person for the release of this book.  He was suggested by an author friend of mine. I was not sure what to expect, but I have been happy so far.  Not only has he come up with some great stuff, he has helped to dare I say motivate me not to procrastinate and get ready for the release.  2) This is the first book I have published not part of my well-known series.  3) I have grown as a writer and I think that it really shows in this book.  --Damn!  The phone rang and I had to pick it up!  The rest of where I was going with this has been lost.  T.E.D. is a great book!

This is the extent of my creativity this evening and although my head is filled with ideas, I have not been able to motivate myself into action.

My Top 10 LGBT YA Books for 2013

Several times over last year, people have asked me who my favorite gay, LGBT or M/M (it gets confusing to keep up with the identifying labels out there) authors are, as well as books that I enjoy by other authors out there.  This topic of conversation I have only answered vaguely in individual conversations and with the briefest of answers.  This being for two reasons, one of which being it was a difficult decision and I did not want to hurt any authors feelings.

Then when a fellow Indy author and friend asked me to take part in a blog hop, giving me her top 10 books, in overzealousness I said I would share my own by posting them at a later date.  It was not until I mentioned my predicament to a friend of mine that it occurred to me that I could put what they were for the last year.  That does not mean if an author does not see their name on my list they were not on a previous list or might be on this year’s list.  So here is my list in alphabetical order…

My Top 10 LGBT YA Books for 2013

Yes, I know there are 11, but I could not cut any one of these from my list.  Most of these books I have liked enough to read a second and third time.

What are some of your favorites?  I would love to hear from you!  Please comment on this post, send me an email or social media.

Hijacking TM Smith’s Blog

Justin: "Did you change the password?"
Derrick: "Yes."
Justin: "Tams is going to be pist!"
Derrick: "We'll change it back when we're done!"
Tams: "Why in the hell is my password not working, god, I hate blogger!!"

Justin Parker and Derrick Wilson from Finding Our Way, Tormented Discovery and Drifting took over TM Smith's blog today.  The following is told from Justin’s point-of-view…

Being so engrossed in what I was reading, I did not hear Derrick enter the room.  Before I knew it, my boyfriend was peering over my shoulder, peaking at what I was reading, Opposites by TM Smith was at the top of the Kindle screen.  I reached out and put my around him, giving him a pat to acknowledge I knew he was there.   I had to finish reading the part that had me so enthralled before his entering the room.

Derrick must have asked the question without my hearing him.  He shouted, “Justin!  What part are you at?”

Not taking my eyes off the book, I read aloud, “Because, my prince, we fucked the sheets off the bed!”

Moments later, perhaps because he was trying to recall the part, Derrick laughed.  “Wow!  You’ve gotten far in the book.”

As he said more, I finished the chapter and closed the book, “You were right.  This did not take me long to get into.  That scene with Tanis going at it with the guard hooked me.”

“I told you it was a great book!”  Derrick smiled smugly.

“That stuff at the beginning I found intimidating.”

“Nah!  It just sets the story.”

I agreed.  Although it was Derrick who suggested the book to me, I eager to talk with him about it.  “I love how the author goes into details about all the couples.   Whether gay, straight or in between she portrays them as people and it does not matter.”

“Did you read the dedication?”

“Yes!  About love being love and the fuck with anyone who does not see that.”  I was excited now.

“Hell,” He said and I looked at him perplexed.  He corrected me, “hell not fuck was what was written.”

“That’s right!”  I flopped over onto my back and patted the empty spot beside me.  I was worked up from my reading, which I knew would not surprise Derrick in the least.

Derrick grinned and lay down beside me, putting his head on my shoulder.  He put his hand on my stomach and teased his fingers, moving downward.   My mind was still wandering, thinking about Opposites, Derrick appearing to know what I want was a good distraction.

Welcoming his advances, I slid my arm around Derrick and worked my hand up and down his side, causing him to let out a slight moan.

Turning to face me, Derrick smiled, “Did you know TM Smith wrote a novella set in the same world?”

“Hmm,” Not what I was hoping his next move was.

Derrick sat up suddenly.  “It’s called The Library and is much more explicit.”

I raised my eyebrows, he now had my attention.  “I will have to read it next.  Although it is a great novel, I have to admit that I like the sex scenes.”

“Then you will love The Library.  There is one scene in particular that I was thinking we could act out.”  Derrick bit his lip.

“Oh no!”

“Oh Yes!”

Hijacking John H. Ames Blog

Justin Parker and Derrick Wilson are characters from Jayson James novels, Finding Our Way, Tormented Discovery and Drifting.  The following is told from Derrick’s point-of-view…

Getting engrossed once again with Nick and John, I completely forgot about the chance that Justin might walking and catch me with the two of him.   My boyfriend, Justin Parker had made me promise him several times that as he put it, “Doing anything with Nick and John without me around.”
“Sure,” I had promised at the time, the request seeming simple enough.
Justin got in my face and reiterated, “I won’t mess around with them when you are not around, so you cannot either.”
“I won’t!” I could remember getting irritated with him being so persistent about the point.  It also seemed weird to me that he was worried about me being unfaithful to him, with this other couple.  Nick and John were in a committed relationship and deeply in love, as Justin and I are.
I only needed a couple more minutes and I would be done.  If I was fast, I could finish with Nick, John, get them out of sight, and Justin would be none the wiser.   I’d been on the edge of the bed, but it was getting uncomfortable craning my neck, so I laid back and pulled them close.
The door was unlocked and opened before I could even move.  Justin busted into the room as if he was expecting to find what he found, “Derrick Wilson!  You are a fricken liar!”
“Fricken,” I repeated back, biting my lower lip.  He was obviously not as upset as I thought he’d be, being he was not swearing.
Justin walked over to me and ripped my Kindle out of my hands, “You promised that you would wait to read Surviving Elite High with me.  I knew I should have taken this with me today.”  He sat down beside me, “How much have you read?”
“Only a little bit.”
He sighed, “How much?”
“Three percent.”
“Three percent!”  Justin shouted back as he got up and walked across the room.  He turned around, “Was it good?”
I grinned. “Even better than the part we read last night.”
Justin groaned, “Derrick!”
“Let’s go back to where we left off and I’ll read you everything that I read.”
Justin held onto my Kindle, staring at me for a moment.  He was trying his hardest to appear angry with me, but I knew better.  Then he giggled.
I had a feeling I knew why.  Now I was upset myself, “You read ahead too?”  Justin bobbed his eyes at me and nodded his head, indicating that he had.  I bit my lip and though for a moment, before asking my initial burning question, “When did you have time to read it?”  Before he could answer, I blurted out my other burning question, “How far did you read?”
“Two percent.”  He smiled, “I woke up to go to the bathroom.  When I was coming back to bed, I couldn’t get back to sleep.”  He thought for second, “I did not want to wake you with, well you know.”
I nodded, knowing too well, what he was talking about.
Shoving me back onto the bed, Justin climbed on top of me and gave me a kiss.  As I reached to grab and pull his shirt off him, he shoved my hands back and flopped down beside me.   He started wiping his finger along the screen moving the pages back, “I’ll go back to where I left off.  Then you can start reading.  Okay?”
“Okay.”
As Justin found our spot in the book, I grinned as I reflected on, who would have thought, us seeing this book one evening, mentioning it to me and my buying it would have captured our attention so closely.  I never thought I would be reading with Justin every chance we got.
“Derrick,” Justin called my name again.  Being wrapped up in my writing, I had not acknowledged his previous attempts.  He has got my attention by saying, “Are you ready to read more of Surviving Elite High?”
